Increasing the economic sustainability of extensive cattle fattening in extensive suckler cow farms. GO VACUSOS

On January 9, 2020, the initial meeting of the Innovative Project "GO VACUSES: Increasing the Economic Sustainability of Extensive Cattle Bait in Extensive Suckler Cow Farming" took place in the facilities of the University of Salamanca.

This Innovative Project has been proposed as a beneficiary for the achievement of aid for the implementation of innovation projects of general interest by operational groups of the European Association for Innovation in Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability (AEI-AGRI), within the framework of the National Rural Development Programme 2014-2020. The financing of this aid will be 80 percent from the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and 20 percent from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

The group is led by the company DE HEUS NUTRICIÓN ANIMAL, S.A. and the private companies IBERICO COMERCIALIZACIÓN, S.C.L., CEDESA DIGITAL, S.L. and IMASDE AGROALIMENTARIA, S.L. participate as beneficiary members,  the public research bodies UNIVERSIDAD DE SALAMANCA and INSTITUTO TECNOLÓGICO AGRARIO DE CASTILLA Y LEÓN (ITACyL) and the livestock breeders' associations UNIÓN DE CRIADORES DE GANADO VACUNO SELECTO DE RAZA CHAROLESA DE ESPAÑA (UCHAE) and FEDERACIÓN ESPAÑOLA DE CRIADORES DE LIMUSIN (FECL). In addition, we have the subcontracting of the association UNION OF BREEDERS OF NODRIZE COWS and the collaboration of ASSOCIATION 19 OF APRIL.

The main objective of GO VACUS is to increase the economic sustainability of extensive cattle fattening in extensive suckler cow farms, through the design of new nutritional strategies to optimize calf feeding and the digitalization of the fattening process.

During the meeting, the technical and dissemination work of the Innovative Project was reviewed and organized. In this respect, two technical seminars have been planned in Salamanca and Mérida (Badajoz) to inform livestock farmers, interest associations and public administration of the objectives and work plan envisaged.
